The biggest mistake one can make when they don't know the way is admitting they are lost. Although we don't want to admit it, this is called "Pride." In order to find the way to eternal life with God, you must admit you are lost in your sin.
Romans 5:12 teaches us that since Adam and Eve, the first man and woman on earth, a sin nature has been present in all people.
Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
In early 2014, Kenny and Heather van Hoven began to take a look at Culpeper, Virginia. They were amazed at the changes that had taken place in this community over the past several years. God confirmed in their hearts that it was indeed His will to plant a brand new church in the beautiful community of Culpeper. The leadership and congregation of Temple Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, Virginia enthusiastically embraced this God-directed initiative as the will of God. Pledging their financial support and willingness to help, TBC commissioned them to leave their church home of over 10 years to establish a New Testament church to the glory and praise of God.
CityLight Baptist Church held its first official service on October 5, 2014. Several other families also felt it was God’s will for them to come alongside and join the vision that is CityLight. We have enjoyed God’s blessings in providing a building from our inception and mature teachers and leaders within our church.
The CityLight vision is open to others who believe this too is God’s will for them. We greatly look forward to the things God will do in the future at CityLight Baptist Church. We desire to be a light in Culpeper, reaching people with the love of Christ and the truth of the gospel that has the power to save and change lives. To God be the glory, great things He hath done!
